  • Release Date:2025-05-29

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) is proud to announce the official launch of its first “NTMoFA International Residency” program in 2025. Following a highly competitive open call, the selection results have now been announced.

A total of 183 artists and researchers from 53 countries submitted applications. After rigorous evaluation and deliberation by both internal and external experts on the museum’s Review Committee, two outstanding international researchers with profound academic backgrounds and extensive curatorial experience have been selected as the inaugural residency fellows. During their residency at the NTMoFA, the selected fellows will explore topics related to Taiwan’s art history and share the results of their research through a public presentation before the end of their stay, helping to build stronger connections between Taiwanese art and global audiences.

According to the NTMoFA, the “NTMoFA International Residency” is the museum’s first research-oriented international residency program. It welcomes research scholars, art historians, critics, curators, artists, and museum professionals from around the world to undertake in-depth studies on the museum’s collections and the art history of Taiwan, fostering cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue. Since the program’s launch in late January 2025, it has drawn significant interest from the international art and academic communities. Within just two months, the museum received 183 applications from 53 countries, underscoring the growing importance of Taiwan’s art research on the global cultural stage.

Chen Kuang-Yi, Director of the NTMoFA, emphasizes that the writing of Taiwan’s art history should not be undertaken solely from a local perspective. By inviting international researchers from diverse cultural backgrounds to take part in the program, the museum aims to encourage broader understanding and reinterpretation of Taiwan’s artistic development within a global context. This kind of collaboration not only brings fresh perspectives to Taiwan’s art discourse, but also opens up new ways to explore and engage with the museum’s collections and resources.

The two selected residency fellows are:

Giulia Colletti from Italy, an adjunct professor of contemporary art history at the Abadir-Accademia di Design e Comunicazione Visiva. As the curator of the Fifth Industrial Art Biennial (IAB), Colletti’s research will focus on the interplay between art and industrial technology, exploring how Taiwan’s artists and scholars integrate technological themes within the museum’s collections.

Jan Elantkowski from Poland, curator of the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art in Budapest, Hungary. With deep expertise in contemporary art and the art history of Central and Eastern Europe, Elantkowski will undertake a comparative study of the methods used in documenting the art history of Taiwan and that of Central and Eastern Europe. His research is expected to open new international avenues for long-term scholarly exchange.

The NTMoFA International Residency program is not only the first international, research-oriented residency based in a Taiwanese art museum but also serves as a dynamic platform for fostering cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue. During their residencies, the participants will have full access to the museum’s extensive collection, art library, and research support systems, as well as opportunities for in-depth engagement with Taiwan’s art community.

Looking ahead, NTMoFA intends to broaden its international cooperation network through this program, continuing to provide vital resource support and inviting scholars, researchers, curators, art critics, artists, and museum professionals from around the world to contribute to the global conversation on art.
