The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) has undertaken the Ministry of Culture's “Reconstructing the History of Art in Taiwan” project since 2018, and the core objective is to represent the history of art in Taiwan and to focus on Taiwan’s century-spanning development of culture, with emphasis placed on connections to art history. After seven years of dedicated work and accumulated effort, in addition to achieving significant results in the museum’s target functions and tasks in the areas of research, exhibition, collection, promotion, library and archives, an important foundation has also been laid for reconstructing the developmental context for the history of art in Taiwan.
The museum has organized the exhibition series, A Pluralistic Art History for Future Generations, to present to the public the fruitful outcomes garnered from the forward-looking project of “Reconstructing the History of Art in Taiwan,” and the results have also been captured and produced into a documentary. In order to generate a wider reach, a designated section for the project is created on the museum’s official website, and included in the section are the following six categories: “Exhibitions and Events,” “Collection and Preservation,” “Academic Seminars,” “Publications,” “Special Collection Literature,” and “Featured Topic Sites.” By providing rich, comprehensive, and systematic resources for the studies of Taiwan’s art history to expand the communication, circulation, and visibility of the research results, the objective is for the public to gain a broader perspective and to further learn about Taiwanese culture and art.
